Overview
Day 1: Arrive Lima. Welcome to Peru! Our driver will meet you at the airport in Lima, Peru and transfer to your hotel in the city center (45 minutes). Day 2: Lima Walking City Tour (3h) Walk through the main streets, squares, and avenues of the city. Begin with Parque de Amor (Love Park) in Miraflores, with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Then you'll have a panoramic view of the Huaca Pucllana, the ceremonial center of the Lima culture. Continue to Plaza de Armas, where you'll find the Government Palace and City Hall. Visit the Cathedral and explore the Convent of Santo Domingo. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Day 3: Lima - Paracas National Reserve - Nazca 5:30AM Pickup from your hotel in private van with driver for 4h drive to the coastal town of Paracas. Board the motorized boat for a 2 hour non-stop tour National Reserve Park and then to the clear, blue waters of the Ballestas Islands, teeming with wildlife including sea lions and many varieties of birds. After the tour, you begin the drive to your hotel in Nazca for our overnight. Day 4: Nazca Lines Flyover - Arequipa Pickup from the hotel and transfer to the local airport. You'll board your flight for the best view of the Nazca lines, from the air! Return to your hotel where you walk to the bus station and take the comfortable overnight bus to Arequipa. Day 5: Early Arrival in Arequipa - Walking City Tour Arrival in the station, where our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel. This is an easy day in Arequipa and after a good rest, we will tour the old monastery of Santa Catalina. Then we'll introduce you to our ancient friend "Juanita," one of the last Inca mummies found on Ampato Mountain. Day 6: Day Trip by Tourist Bus from Arequipa to Puno Pickup from your hotel and begin 6.5-7.5 h scenic bus ride through the Andean altiplano with views of volcanos and lagoons and short stops along the way. Arrive at the station in Puno where our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel. Our local manager will contact by phone or in the hotel lobby to review the trip to Lake Titicaca and answer any questions. Walk to nearby restaurants on the pedestrian alleyway.
Day 7: Puno - Uros Islands - Takile Island After an early breakfast, you board a double decker motorized boat to travel to the Floating Reed Islands (Los Uros) where you learn how totora reed is used to build livable space and canoes. Then take a step back in time on a visit toTakile Island, where the men are renowned knitters. After a divine homemade luncheon and a walking tour we return to Puno about 3h by boat. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy an evening in the village on your own.
Note: the cost of lunch is not included. We suggest you bring at least 30 soles per person in cash. Day 8: Tourist Bus from Puno to Cusco Our comfortable tourist bus follows the ancient path of the sun as it rambles through the highlands (on paved roads) with stops to explore the Pukara Museum, (pre-Inca site) Racchi (pre-Inca ruins) and Andahuaylillas (colonial church known as the "Sistene Chapel of the Andes)." Includes a stop for lunch offering a buffet of tempting Peruvian cuisine. 5 PM: Arrival in Cusco bus station where our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel for checkin. Enjoy an evening walking to the restaurant of your choice in the historic city center.
Note: entry to the sites and church are optional. Bring at least $20 USD per person in cash in small bills to pay in person) Day 9: Cusco Walking City Tour 3h - Hisotiric Outskirts Tour 4-5H 9am. We'll enjoy a walking tour of Cusco for an easy day. We'll visit La Plaza de Las Armas and ancient streets with Inca architecture in the center of Cusco and the golden temple of Koricancha. After lunch (on your own), you will enjoy a walking guided tour of the Historical Outskirst at the archaeological ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Quenco, and Tambomachay, the royal Inca baths. This tour is about 4-5 hours ending back at your hotel.
Note: your tour guide can arrange a taxi if needed on the way back from Sacsayhuaman. Bring cash in USD or Peruvian currency about $20 in small bills. Day 10: Full Day Sacred Valley Tour by Van to Ollantaytambo 8:30 AM Our guide and driver pick you up from your hotel, then drive 30 minutes to the Chinchero weavers’ village where local Quechua women demonstrate traditional Incan weaving and dyeing techniques. (textiles are for sale and 100% of sales supports the women’s textile community.) Lunch will be arranged at a restaurant on the way. (at your expense) Continue to Moray to explore unusual geologic sink-holes that the Inca reconstructed into concentric terraces to create a landscape masterpiece. Its purpose has been debated for decades since it was rediscovered from the air in 1931. Drive to Maras terraced salt ponds - a cascade of pink-hued salt crystals from an actively flowing underground stream that has evaporated and pooled on the surface. Each pond is owned and harvested by a local family. Continue to Ollantaytambo, the oldest-still occupied village in Peru.
Checkin to the hotel and pack a small overnight bag for the train ride to Aguas Calientes the next day.
Day 11: Ollantaytambo -Train - Machu Picchu Afternoon Golden Hour - Hotel
After breakfast in the hotel, your tour guide will meet up to take you on a guided tour of the prominent Ollantaytambo ruins overlooking the Sacred Valley. These ruins are the last Inca stronghold when Emperor Manco defeated the Spanish in a famous battle in 1536. After the tour, you take the morning train for two-hour ride through the picturesque Urubamba Valley to the charming pedestrians-only village of Aguas Calientes. Walk to the restaurant of your choice for lunch (cost not included) before taking the 30-minute shuttle to the main entry of Machu Picchu National Park. Your guide will begin a private tour lasting about 2-3 hours. Get up close to real functioning fountains, walk through original Inka houses, observe religious and astrological features, and learn about the many sacred elements and mysterious carved rocks of one of the noblest ancient civilizations to inhabit the earth. After you exit, take the shuttle bus back to the village and walk to your hotel and enjoy dinner and an evening on your own.
Day 12: Aguas Calientes - Train - Return to Cusco
Take the morning train to return to the village of Ollantaytambo where the Adios driver will be waiting to take you to pick up your excess luggage then continue by van to your hotel in Cusco. Enjoy an afternoon on your own to explore the city or book a couple's massage. (we provide links to a hotel in San Blas to self book online.) Day 13: Cusco Exploration on your own Whether you choose to spend a relaxing day wandering around Cusco or a busy day finishing your shopping, the choice is yours. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide and companions. Day 14: Farewell to the Land of the Lima - Departure from Cusco After breakfast, we will take you to the airport where our services conclude. You will fly to your next destination or your home. Choose your dates, then contact us for availability.
