Beginning Sunday June 1, 2025 Jorge Chávez International Airport will commence operations at their new terminal. In order to transfer operators to the new airport terminal, all services at Lima airport will be halted for 12 hours from midnight May 31 to 12N on June 1, 2025. There will be no flights in and out of Peru during this 12 hour period on June 1.

Why is the Lima airport transferring operations to a new terminal on June 1, 2025?

The suspension of service at Lima, Peru International airport has nothing to do with politics, protests or anything of that nature. The original plan was to open the new Lima airport terminal last December 2024. Apparently, it didn't work out. So they waited until the beginning of the high season for travel to Machu Picchu, when all entry tickets are sold out. To top it off, they annoounced the 12 hour closure about 2 weeks prior to the date it's scheduled to take place.

What should you do if you're scheduled to arrive or depart from Lima airport during the 12 hour it's closed on June 1?

Here's a link to the Lima airport website where the story is posted. There is literally no mention of how travelers should handle disruptions if their flight is scheduled during that window of closure. I checked the Latam Airlines website and there are no flights available between Cusco and Lima in the morning of June 1. Not one. If you scheduled your flight way back when, I'm guessing you may have received notification of a change to your flight schedule. To be honest, I don't know. If you haven't received a notification of change from your airline, it's time to contact them.

Will there be interruptions in flights or services at Lima, Peru airport before June 1?

They're planning to run drills and tests between May 15-June 1, 2025. "In the weeks prior, operational drills will be intensified, particularly in the hold baggage screening and handling systems (HBS/BHS) and aircraft parking stands, to ensure that all systems comply with national and international safety and quality standards."

Check back. I'll keep this post updated as new info comes in.
