Machu Picchu Seasonal Hikes Available Easter 2025
"Never look a gift-lama in the mouth" I always say! Without any forewarning, the head honchos at Machu Picchu released tickets for entry in April 2025 and dropped a surprise bonus for entry to the seasonal hikes at Machu Picchu. Valid only for 4 days before Easter.
Hop on over to the official Tu Boleto website and take a peek if you want to get a ticket to hike Circuit 1C + Sungate, Circuit 1D + Inka Bridge, Circuit 3C + Grand Cavern, or Circuit 3D + Huchuypicchu. There are links to maps and written descriptions for each circuit and each hike on the same website.
Do you have to do the hike if you buy the ticket for a hike at Machu Picchu?
Let's say you get to the middle of the Andes Mountains, and you're not feeling it. You don't have to do the hike. And most hikes you can start and then turn around if you decide you're not enjoying it as much as you thought! If you want an easy hike, look at Huchuy Picchu. That's combined with the lower, easier circuit 3. If you are feeling like you want to huff and puff a bit to get up up to the upper terraces, then check out the Inca Bridge hike. Once you get up there, that hike is short and easy. If you've read my other posts about the Inca Bridge, remember it's a slab of really old wood thrown across a broken path along a granite wall. You will view it from a distance.
These hikes at Machu Picchu should not be confused with the Inca Trail hikes that require advance permits. That's a separate
Can you buy tickets separately for the hikes at Machu Picchu?
No. All the hikes are like the combo order at your favorite fast food joints. The hike combos are set in Inca stone by the honchos. It's my dream that one day they will separate the tickets for the hikes from the tickets for the circuits, and let people mix and match according to their needs and interests. But. We're not there yet! Choose wisely.
The dates for the seasonal hikes are limited to 4 days from April 17 to Easter Sunday April 20, 2025. Early morning entry times are not ideal for people doing 1 day trips by train from Cusco. You need to be at the bus stop in the village of Aguas Calientes about 1 hour prior to your scheduled entry at Machu Picchu main gate.
Once the word gets out, availability will change, But at this time, we're seeing availability for all the entry times as follows:
- 1C Sungate - 8am / 9am / 10am / 11am - 20 tickets for each of the 4 entry times
- 1D Inka Bridge - 8am / 9am / 10am / 11am - 45 tickets for each of the 4 entry times
- 3C Great Cavern - 7am / 8am - 100 tickets for each of the 2 entries
- 3D Huchuypicchu - 9am / 11am - 25 tickets for each of the 2 entries
Tickets for the 4 seasonal hikes will officially be released starting with June, on January 17, for entry during the high season from June 1 to October 15. But this year, they changed the date of release to June 19! We didn't see this coming. Welcome to Peru folks! To see the schedule for all the release dates, go to this post. CLICK HERE.
The other 2 popular year round hikes are Circuit 3A + Wayna Picchu and Circuit 1A + Machu Picchu Mountain. We see tickets available for various dates for all months released at this point.
