After waiting 6 long years, adventure travelers can now fly between Lima and Huaraz starting July 1, 2024. In case you don't know, Huaraz is a small town in the heart of the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca, and the hub to some of the finest trekking, climbing and high mountain exploring, in all of Peru! This is a huge advancement for travelers not accustomed to riding buses for long periods of time.

I flew up to Huaraz one year to scope it out. This was before flights were suspended. It was on a small plane with maybe 20 seats. The airport was relatively new, so I don't know why the recent stories report that the suspension was due to aging facilities. Granted there was one runway and I doubt if a commercial plane could land. The fact that Latam airlines is restoring service indicates that things are improving. I'm glad to hear that.

The local tour guides we work with in Huaraz are delighted that flights are starting up again. We're flinging open the door to groups who are interested in hiking, trekking, climbing, mountain skiing and other adventures in Huascaran, Pisco, Ishinca and other high mountain destinations in Ancash region. Keep in mind that the prime hiking season is June to August depending on the route you choose.

Here's what we know about the Latam flights to Huaraz: (subject to change)

  • Latam Airlines is the only airline offering service at this time
  • Service begins July 1, 2024
