2017 Rate Increase for Entry to Machu Picchu and Inca Trail Hikes
Effective January 1, 2017, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture has increased rates for entry to all ticketed museums, historical sights and archaeological parks in most of Peru. Including an increase in the cost of permits for Inca Trail hikes as well as the cost of permits for each porter.
Adult entry tickets to Machu Picchu will increase from 128/s. pp to 152/s. pp. (about $7.50 USD pp increase) And the cost to add the hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain will set you back 48/s. (about $15 USD pp)
The old cost of combined Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu tickets were 152/s. pp (about $47.50 USD pp). The new rate in 2017 for both with be 200/s. (about $62.50 USD pp)
For the first time ever, seniors over the age of 60 years are entitled to a 50% discount off the cost of the adult tickets.
"Vespertino" (afternoon tickets) will also see an increase. The cost for students will go up, but the age of students who qualify for the student discount will still apply for those under 18 years old and for university students holding a valid ISIC card.
Increases in rates for Inca Trail hikes will be higher because of the increase in the cost of permits for porters, cooks and guides.
