Let us do the driving, you do the hiking. Combination hike and van trip meanders through the Sacred Valley, then scales the glacier of Abra Malaga before descending into the semi-tropical back side of Machu Picchu. Hike through a temperate jungle eco-system that includes family-owned coffee and avocado plantations to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to the the famous citadel of the Incan Empire, Machu Picchu.
*(this trip is a hidden gem among trips to Machu Picchu. Having a vehicle at your disposal for most of the trip offers the flexibility to explore the beautiful countryside and places with very few tourists)
We’ll meet you at the airport and transport to your hotel, before we start our walking tour to familiarize you with the city and give you a chance to adjust to the altitude. After lunch in one of the many restaurants, we’ll drive out to the ancient Inca sites of Tambomachay, Quenco and Sacsayhuaman. Return to Cusco for dinner in the restaurant of your choice followed by overnight in hotel.
We will pick you up at your hotel with a mini-van and start our drive to the Sacred Valley. Stops will include the city of Chinchero, famous for ancient weaving & hand-made textiles, followed by Maras, the ancient Incan greenhouse and the terraced salt ponds of Moray. In the afternoon we’ll drive up to 15,000 ft/4572 m. and cross over a glacier and a place called Abra Malaga. Then down to explore the town of Santa Maria, and finally to our destination, Santa Teresa, for our camping overnight. (bring your swim suit if you want to enjoy the hot springs)
The van will drop us at Lucmabamba where we start our 5 hour hike, which features an incredible & rarely seen distant view of Machu Picchu. We’ll arrive at the Hydro-electrica and then go by train to Aguas Calientes and our hotel. You will enjoy dinner in a restaurant and explore the quaint, gateway town if desired.
(moderate hiking with some short, steep climbs, just enough so you don't think it's too easy to hike in Peru)
After a good night's rest, we take the early bus to Machu Picchu for a private, guided tour of the ruins. You will have time to explore on your own before we return by train to Aguas Calientes, then through Ollantaytambo to your hotel in Cusco for the last evening and overnight
Transfer to Cuzco airport at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure. Farewell and conclusion of our services.
