What do you know about Bolivia?  You may be familiar with the Uyuni Salt Flats and the silver mines in Potosi.  Many people have heard of the Sun and Moon Islands on Lake Titicaca.  But very few have heard of the high desert coral funerary towers of Necropolis found near the village of San Juan in the high desert.  These bubbles were once part of a high altitude body of water that is now long gone.

What remains are hollow coral "bubbles" that were once full of water.  The ancient Aymara people known as the "Lipes" migrated to, and occupied the area from 1250-1450 AD.  They thought the bubbles would be the perfect place to lay their dead.  Welcome to Necropolis!

Each bubble is the home to a set of bones for one or more people.  Because of the extremely dry, arid climate, even fragments of textiles can be seen.
