Bolivian people in their town, as you adjust to the altitude. The second day starts with a guided visit to the archaeological complex of Tiahuanaco, then crossing the Peru-Bolivian border, and on to arrive in Puno on the shores of Titicaca Lake with the islands of the Sun and the Moon.
We launch our visit to the Floating Islands of the Uros to learn about the traditional use of the totora reeds for building islands and boats. Back on board our motor boat, we ride to Taquile Island for a glimpse of a day in the life of the kind and friendly Aymara people.
On to Cusco, the archaeological capital of the Americas, we further explore the historical center of the Inca Empire with its impressive temples and Colonial churches including the Cathedral and Koricancha, the Temple of the Sun. We travel by train through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and enter the magical citadel of Machu Picchu by hiking through the Sun Gate from above. Finally, we return to Cusco by train to fly to Lima where we have the option to visit museums and the historical district.
You can choose to actively explore the city by foot or park yourself in the local plaza to people-watch until we choose a restaurant for dinner.
On our way to Puno, we will stop at the Tiahuanaco archaeological site and part of the Titicaca Lake for a private guided tour. By afternoon, we should arrive in Puno, get settled in our hotel and explore the city on the shore before we choose a restaurant for our dinner.
After our Peruvian buffet breakfast, we transfer to the docks to board our motor boat to visit the Floating Reed Islands of Uros. Then on to the island of Amantani, for our overnight in our "aboriginal B & B."
After breakfast, we bid farewell to our indigenous hosts and board our boat for Taquile Island, where the talents of the local men are best exemplified by their knitting skills. Lunch is a sampling of the incredible local cuisine followed by a walking tour and return to our boat. Finally, back to Puno in time for dinner in a local restaurant of our choice.
After breakfast, we board our bus for the day-long ramble through the Peruvian countryside. Includes stops to explore the Pukara Museum, Raqchi and Andahuaylillas. Includes a stop for lunch offering a buffet of tempting Peruvian cuisine. 5 PM: Arrival and overnight in Cusco.
Walking tour of the city in the morning, includes visits to La Plaza de las Armas and Koricancha, the Inca temple of the sun. In the afternoon you will enjoy escorted, guided tours to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay.

The train will drop us in the jungle at Km 104 where we start hiking towards Winayhuayna. We pass a secluded waterfall and from here we enter through the Sun Gate to catch our first glimpse of Machupicchu. After the sunset, we take a short ride to our hotel in Aguas Calientes. The Early morning bus returns us to Machupicchu to enjoy the majestic sunrise over the Inca citadel. After your private, guided tour of the park, we take the bus to Aguas Calientes to return to Cusco by train.
